TNR-3000 Noise Reduction Unit

TNR-3000 Noise Reduction Unit

The Telonics Model TNR-3000 Noise Reduction Unit supercedes the highly successful TNR2000 Noise Reduction Unit, which was the first Digital Signal Processing (DSP) device designed specifically for wildlife research telemetry applications. Small, rugged, and lightweight, the unit works in portable operation as well as in vehicles and fixed sites.

Not to be confused with old-fashioned "noise-blanking" circuits, the TNR-3000 employs the most advanced Digital Signal Processing circuitry and programming available today for highly portable, battery-powered applications. Telonics developed the DSP algorithms in the TNR-3000 especially for improving the quality of wildlife telemetry signals under the worst possible conditions of man-made interference, such as static from older engines in cars, trucks, boats, off-road vehicles, and planes, from nearby radiating sites such as high voltage power lines, generator facilities, and radio towers, and also from atmospheric interference. Whether additional interference is present or not, the TNR-3000 will reduce the troublesome background rushing noise (pink noise) emitted by conventional telemetry receivers by well over an order of magnitude (15-17 dB). The more experience you have had listening to this "hiss and roar" while straining to pick out a weak signal, the more dramatic will be the effect of the TNR-3000. The TNR-3000 works best at improving low-signal performance when users listen to telemetry receivers with headphones. In order to maximize battery life, Telonics designed the TNR-3000 as a low-power device to drive monaural headphones, headsets, and intercom systems. It will not drive external speakers without amplification. The TNR-3000 does contain a small, low- volume internal speaker to conveniently verify receiver operation, but users should not use it for tracking. The TNR-3000 automatically activates the speaker when headphones are not plugged in and disables the speaker when headphones are plugged in, even when the TNR-3000 is switched off. When the TNR-3000 is switched on, it feeds digitally processed audio instead of raw audio to the appropriate output.

Users can power the TNR-3000 with either an internal 9 volt battery, a car power jack, or an AC power source, depending on application requirements. Telonics supplies the appropriate cables and transformers separately.

Key Features

  • Substantially reduces the background pink noise from telemetry receivers
  • Reduces impulse noise from vehicle engines
  • Minimizes steady-state tones such as whines and whistles
  • Eliminates heterodynes present in many telemetry receivers without reducing the level of the desired telemetry pulses
  • Increased audio bandwidth over that of the TNR-2000
  • Internal battery capability or external 12 or 24 volt system power (9-28 VDC)
  • LED low battery/power check indicator
  • Significant reduction in peak current drain
  • Internal speaker for convenient receiver function verification

Service Commitment

Since 1970, Telonics has built a reputation based on product quality, product support, service, and customer satisfaction. Telonics strives to produce the highest quality products, and to support those products accordingly.

Because of extreme conditions and the unpredictable nature associated with most telemetry applications, problems occasionally arise. Most problems can be resolved quickly. In all cases, we hope to be able to work in partnership with users to resolve problems to the user's satisfaction and to uphold our demonstrated commitment to excellence. If problems should arise, all products must be returned to our factory for failure analysis.

Telonics warrants its products to be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of one year from the date acquired. Telonics does not warrant batteries.

If a defect occurs, return the equipment to us within the proper time frame at the following address: TELONICS, 932 E. IMPALA AVENUE, MESA AZ USA 85204-6699. Damage to any equipment resulting from misuse, accidents, unauthorized service, extreme conditions, or other causes, is excluded from this warranty. Telonics does not assume responsibility for loss or damage to equipment during shipment. Telonics does not assume responsibility for delays resulting from shipment on commercial or private carriers. We insure all equipment shipped from our facility and suggest that shipments to Telonics also be insured.

Upon the timely return to our facility, if defective, the product will be replaced or repaired at our discretion at no cost to the customer. This remedy is the exclusive remedy. This product is supplied without any further warranties or conditions, expressed or implied, including warranties of merchantability, quality or fitness for particular reason or those arising by laws, statutes or trade usage or course of dealing.

The entire risk, as to the results and performance of the product, is assumed by the customer.
