The CR-1 was basically impervious to releases due to shock. Telonics has retained the same reliability in these later designs while reducing weight. Telonics can program the release time for these devices at the factory; alternatively, users can program the devices using a simple Windows interface. These collar releases are compatible with all Telonics collars, including GPS collars.
In the near future Telonics plans to introduce a secure radio command link version of the release mechanism for use on GPS collars. Field testing for this device is currently underway. This device can be shipped domestically (within the US) on passenger aircraft under a US Department of Transportation (DOT) exemption. The CR-2a device is not regulated by the US Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Special US Export permits for the device are not required. Importation into Canada requires a special importation permit and thus all shipments of CR-2a or products containing an installed CR-2a must be procured through and shipped via Telonics Canada (where the importation permit has been acquired). As a note, Telonics has shipped CR-2a's to Japan, Mongolia (China), and Austria. No restrictions or extended delays were encountered with these shipments. All shipments declare the CR-2a and shipments are labeled as "Explosive". Telonics has not had any instances where overseas shipment has been restricted or returned to our factory. As of May 2003, no other importation restrictions on the device have been encountered. However, all international purchasers must understand that Telonics ships the CR-2a internationally at the user's risk. If the CR-2a device requires importation permits in a particular country it is the buyer's responsibility to obtain the appropriate permits. If the units are restricted or delayed the buyer must accept full responsibility for the interface to the appropriate government regulatory agency that is responsible for the importation.
