To whom it may concern:

Telonics has been designing and manufacturing a wide variety of electronic devices used in scientific research and security applications for the past 25 years. Our products (well over 200 different products) fall into three categories with regard to the Year 2000 (Y2K) Compliance issue:

  1. The vast majority of these devices do not include real time clocks nor do they have provisions for handling calendar date or year. These products are Y2K compliant by default.
  2. Beginning in the early 1980’s, Telonics began production of numerous products that contain microprocessors. These products feature functions that involve data collection, reduction, and data transmission. Many of these microprocessors, do not contain real time clocks or provision for calendar date or year and therefore are Y2K compliant by default.
  3. More recently Telonics has been producing devices that contain both microprocessors and real time clocks that contain provision for calendar date and year. These products are currently being examined and tested for Y2K compliance.

At the present time product categories have been established and those products that might become affected by the Y2K event are being examined. Both hardware and software are currently under review to make assure they are Y2K compliant. This posting (following this document) on our website (www.telonics.com) contains information on the status of our products with regard to the Y2K issue. Our initial review indicates that the vast majority of our products including those that contain microprocessors are, Y2K compliant.

To be Y2K compliant the product must function “normally” (as designed), prior to, during, and after 1 January 2000. The degree of testing associated with various products varies with the product itself. In some cases, a simple engineering review of the product has been conducted. If the product does not contain date dependencies this concludes our investigation of that product. In cases where date dependencies occur testing has been initiated and typically involves a simulated rollover test to assure performance of the product after the Y2K event. In numerous cases where integrated components or subassemblies i.e. GPS receivers are used in the production of a final product we must rely on the most current information provided by the manufacturer’s of that component and subassembly. Telonics is not liable for the accuracy, representations, or warranties of our vendors in regard to the components, subassemblies, and equipment they portray as compliant and makes no representations regarding our vendor’s products. Telonics is not liable for the performance or non-performance of any vendors products with regard to Y2K compliance.

The inquires received thus far from customers regarding Y2K compliance fall into three categories:

  1. Customers who have questions about the Y2K compliance of specific products or product categories can find information on those products in the accompanying table (following this document). If you are not able to determine that Y2K status from the table you can provide Telonics with specific model numbers and CTN (serial numbers) and we can assist you in determining Y2K status.
  2. Customers who have broad contracts and would like information of all products produced by Telonics for Y2K compliance. Those customers of necessity will have to wait for a complete review of all of our products. The general product category listing below is updated as product Y2K status is reviewed and determined.
  3. Customers who not only wish information concerning the products we produce, but require information on our entire business operation including but not limited to, software operation of our business computers in relation to the Y2K event. With regard to our business software, we have completed Y2K rollover simulations on our internal computer network And know of no Y2K rollover problems with our business software, computer network, or telephone system that would result in an interruption of services due to the Y2K event. Customers with further questions on these issues should write directly to our office with their inquiries.

Telonics is committed to providing information on Y2K issues and ensuring that all of our customers are serviced in a timely fashion with regard to providing all available information as quickly as testing/review is completed. Telonics makes no warranties or guarantees concerning Y2K issues. Any and all representations are based solely upon the knowledge of the company at the time they are made.

We look forward to providing uninterrupted service to our customers throughout 1999 and well into the next millennium.

Sincerely,

The Management of Telonics
